A meal and a sing song followed at the Buck’s Head in Church Stretton to conclude a very enjoyable day. Photos here.
To celebrate the switching on of the Christmas Lights in Newtown, The Choir performed a flashmob performance – singing several carols and old classics to entertain the audience.
Despite the horrendous weather, some choir members arrived by motorbike, including the MD, Christine Roberts who took the audience by surprise.

On 28th. September, a coachload of choristers and supporters travelled to Plymouth for a four day tour, staying at the New Continental Hotel in the city. There was an opportunity to explore the city and to take the ferry to the seaside villages of Cowsand and Kingsand. Back at Plymouth Ho, after passing Smeaton’s Tower, the War Memorial had a very impressive ‘poppy display’ where a ‘Last Post’ ceremony took place daily at 6 o’clock. Some of the choir had the opportunity to sing ‘Calon Lan’ at this ceremony, to a large appreciative crowd that had gathered there.
On Saturday 30th., September there was a concert at Holbeton Church, a few miles to the east of Plymouth. Newtown Male Voice Choir was joined on stage by the ‘Girls Night Out’ choir from the area, performing to a full church. Compere for the choir was Mrs Lucy Owen; Mrs Christine Roberts was the conductor with Mrs Gill Owen as accompanist. Mrs Enid Morgan (choir secretary) was responsible for the arrangements with some assistance from Robin Lavers. A very enjoyable and rewarding visit.
Many thanks to Lucy Owen who provided some photos from the Choirs recent trip to Cornwall. These can be seen in the Gallery Page.
