Christine has been the Musical Director of the Choir since 2001. Prior to this she was the conductor of the Newtown Operatic Society for three years.
Born in Shrewsbury, she has been associated with music from an early age. She has sung at many Eisteddfodau and Musical Festivals, Isobel Bailey awarding her the Silver Rose Bowl at Wolverhampton.
She has been soloist with various Male Voice Choirs including a tour of Germany with the Shrewsbury Choir. She sang on S.A.B.C. whilst living in South Africa and was a member of the Durban Opera Company
Sarah Astley Davies
Born and brought up in Newtown, Sarah started playing the piano when she was 7 years old, and also plays the clarinet and saxophone. She attended Cardiff University, where she achieved a joint honours degree in Music and Welsh, followed by a master’s degree in Welsh Ethnological Studies, and now works for Powys County Council.
She has been involved with Newtown Musical Theatre Company since 2006, initially as a Rehearsal Accompanist, but more recently as Musical Director for a number of their shows, including Oliver! (2009), The Wizard of Oz (2011) and Annie (2013). She has been the choir’s Assistant Accompanist since May 2014.
